Board of Directors Meeting

Mission: Drug Free Johnson County is a volunteer organization dedicated to serving as a catalyst for preventing, treating and reducing the negative effects of substance abuse by youth and adults in Johnson County.

Attendees: Rick Hughes, Judy Olds, Kate Krukemeier, Michelle McMahon, Kendee Kolp, Cindy Carroll, Bill Kindle, Sonya Ware-Meguiar, Jim Hoeing

1. Rick Hughes called the meeting to order at 1036 hours.
2. Introductions were made by all those in attendance.
3. Rick Hughes gave everyone a chance to review the October minutes. Michelle McMahon made a motion to accept the minutes. Judy Olds seconded the motion. Rick Hughes called for a vote. All members voted in favor, with none opposed.
4. Jim Hoeing presented a proposed schedule for 2018. The board discussed the schedule, and elected to not conduct meetings in March and July, due to vacation conflicts. The meetings will continue to be held in the training room at the Franklin Police Department, and begin at 10:30. The 2018 schedule is:
a. January 19th

e. May 18th
f. June 22nd
g. July – No Meeting
h. August 24th
i. September 21st

5. Jim Hoeing provided members with the 2018 Grants Committee recommendations. Those recommendations were :
a. Tara Treatment Center $5000.00. Susan Sahm made a motion to approve the funding, with Judy Olds seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed.
b. Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (Breaking Chains) 4,825.00. Sonya Ware-Meguiar made a motion to approve the funding, with Michelle McMahon seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed. (Rick Hughes voted in favor, but abstained in his proxy vote for Abby Hamilton.)
c. Greenwood Probation Department $11,175.00. Kate Krukemeier made a motion to approve the funding, with Susan Sahm seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed.
d. Turning Point Domestic Violence Services $1,500.00. Michelle McMahon made a motion to approve the funding, with Susan Sahm seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed. (Sonya Ware-Meguiar voted in favor, but abstained in her proxy vote for Nicole Emerson.)
e. Boys and Girls Club of Franklin 1,500.00. Kate Krukemeier made a motion to approve the funding, with Judy Olds seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed. Susan Sahm abstained from the vote.
f. Reach for Youth 6,000.00. Judy Olds made a motion to approve the funding, with Susan Sahm seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed. Kendee Kolp abstained from the vote.
g. Partnership for a Healthier Johnson County 2,000.00. Sonya Ware-Meguiar made a motion to approve the funding, with Michelle McMahon seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed.
h. Girl’s Inc. of Johnson County 4,000.00. Kendee Kolp made a motion to approve the funding, with Susan Sahm seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed. Sonya Ware-Meguiar abstained from the vote.
i. Franklin Community School Corp. $0.00. Kate Krukemeier made a motion to approve no funding for FCSC, with Michelle McMahon seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed.
j. Youth Connections 6,000.00. Sonya Ware-Meguiar made a motion to approve the funding, with Susan Sahm seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed. Judy Olds abstained from voting.
k. Greenwood Police Department 4,530.00. Michelle McMahon made a motion to approve the funding, with Kendee Kolp seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed. (Judy Olds voted in favor, but abstained in her proxy vote for Aaron Hagist.)
l. Johnson County Adult Probation 6,320.00. Michelle McMahon made a motion to approve the funding, with Sonya Ware-Meguiar seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed. (Rick Hughes abstained from voting.)
m. Johnson County Juvenile probation $6.320.00. Kendee Kolp made a motion to approve the funding, with Judy olds seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed. (Rick Hughes abstained from voting.)
n. Whiteland Police Department $0.00. Judy Olds made a motion to approve no funding for the Whiteland Police Department, with Sonya Ware-Meguiar seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed.
o. Franklin Police Department $2,230.00. Kate Krukemeier made a motion to approve the funding, with Michelle McMahon seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed.
p. Johnson County Sheriff’s Office 1,600.00. Susan Sahm Made a motion to approve the funding, with Sonya Ware-Meguiar seconding the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed.
q. All funding was based on the approximate funds available, as the December income was not yet available. Michelle McMahon made the following motion:
i. In Treatment / Intervention, any +/- adjustment will be taken / added to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
ii. In Prevention / Education, and + / – adjustment will be equally split between Reach for Youth and Youth Connections.
iii. In Justice / Law Enforcement, any + / – adjustment will be equally split between Johnson County Adult Probation and Johnson County Juvenile Probation.
Sonya Ware-Meguiar seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, with none opposed.
6. Grantee Update: Abby Hamilton was not present to provide the grantee update for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. She will present the update at the January meeting.
7. Chair / Vice Chair elections:
a. Rick Hughes opened the floor for Chair nominations. Tony Povinelli nominated Rick Hughes to serve as Chair. Sonya Ware-Meguiar seconded the motion. No other nominations were made. All members voted in favor of electing Rick Hughes Chair. He will serve as Chair from January 1st, 2018 through December 31st, 2018.
b. Rick Hughes opened the floor for Vice Chair nominations. Rick Hughes nominated Judy Olds for Vice Chair. Susan Sahm seconded the motion. No other nominations were made. All members voted in favor of electing Judy Olds as Vice Chair. She will serve as Vice Chair from January 1st, 2018 through December 31st, 2018.
8. Old Business:
a. No old business was brought forward.
9. New Business:
a. Rick Hughes reminded all grantees that final reporting is due January 15th, 2018. Jim Hoeing will send out an email reminding all grantees.
10. Susan Sahm made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Sonya Ware-Meguiar seconded the motion. Rick Hughes called for a vote, with all members voting in favor. The meeting was adjourned at 11:13.
